Well not really, but if you’ve checked out our portfolio you might think that white paper is the only thing we can print on, which certainly isn’t true. We recently wrote about business cards we printed on kraft stock (blog post: What the Kraft?), but have been getting more inquiries about different paper options. Men’s Vogue contacted us a while back to print letterpress invitations for a special event they were hosting at the new Vertu boutique. They wanted something outrageously thick since the invites were being delivered by hand for this exclusive event and so we printed the invitations on 1/4″ thick black card stock using silver metallic ink.

Letterpress invitations for corporate events is certainly not a new trend, in fact we posted a while back about letterpress invitations we printed for First Kentucky Trust’s Open House (see post: corporate letterpress). Shortly after printing those invitations we got a call from Men’s Vogue to print these invitesfor a special event. Audemars Piguet, who sponsored the event, makes fine Swiss watches which was the inspiration for the design.

The watch design was printed in silver metallic ink and shows the intricate details of the gears which when letterpress printed provides a unique effect on the paper. Below are some closer pictures of the design which shows the metallic shimmer of the ink and the deep impression we were able to achieve using our thick cotton stock.

These invites are a great example of how letterpress printing can be used to create a unique invitation and start your event off on the right foot.
A few posts back we wrote about a new service that we’re offering at Dolce Press, edge painting (“We’re on EDGE”). It is a great way to add a pop of color to a letterpress print and based on the response from our customers we’ve found out that they are as excited about it as we are. We selected these two cards edged in orange and red for photographers Jeff Holt and David Burke as a continuation of our post Photographers ♥ Letterpress.

Here are some pictures of Jeff’s cards which are slimmer than regular cards and were printed on our extra thick cotton stock in orange and gray ink. You can see the stacks of business cards in the background waiting to dry after being painted. We love the combination of gray and orange used in Jeff’s cards.

David’s cards turned out just as great with a vibrant red edge color painted on the same thick paper. The cards are letterpress printed on both sides in a dark gray and red ink. David’s logo, a two-color camera featured on the back of the card gives the cards a unique look.

First off, I’d like to thank everyone who submitted their proposal story on our Valentine’s Day Giveaway Post. All of the stories were fabulous and completely romantic (perfect for V-day). Because all the stories were great, we had such a hard time deciding the winner so, we entered all the comments in a random generator and chose one at random.
Congratulations Karlee. Her proposal story is below:
Ours is a classic story of opposites attract. High school sweethearts turned into nine years of love, long distance, and pursuing individual dreams while gaining frequent flier miles and hefty phone bills. I was destined to be a city girl and moved to Manhattan upon college graduation while Ben remained in Oregon with his boat and 4-wheel drive. The only thing I loved more than NY was Ben so we debated back and forth what our next step would be. That’s what made the day he suprised me and flew to NY to propose on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade so special. Not to mention the fact that he flew my Oregonian family out to be there for a surprise sunset engagement party at the River Cafe overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The perfect day!

A new invitation has been added to the Dolce Press Wedding Line. The Florence invite is a bit different because if you notice, we pressed the negative space allowing the image to be bumped up instead of depressed on the paper. We love how this image just pops

Can you imagine your text in this space? If so, please feel free to contact us for pricing and other inquires. As with all our invitations, the colors and font can be changed at no additonal charge. For completely custom invitations, please feel free to contact us directly at 516.353.9284 and we would be hapy to discuss your options.
We have designed a new Save the Date Card and with Valentine’s Day approaching what better than to offer 1 engaged couple 75 free save the dates for their upcoming wedding.

How to Qualify:
Please leave a comment on this post, about how your boyfriend/girlfriend proposed. The story should only be a few sentences (please no novels).
Prize:
75 letterpress printed save the dates in 2 colors on 110lb cotton paper in white with matching envelopes.
The catch:
No changes can be made to this Save the Date design (except for the couple’s name and date of the wedding).
Deadline:
Comments can be made until Friday, February 13th 11:59pm EST.
My fiance and I will be choosing the winner (our favorite story) on Saturday, February 14th 2009, Valentine’s Day.
Thanks and Good Luck.
Getting great feedback from our clients always makes us feel good and validates why we do what we do. Here are some pictures of business cards we printed recently and the feedback we received from the clients:
