Duplexing helps add that pop of color to a white letterpress card.

Here’s a set of duplexed business cards we printed for Lauren Liess Interiors, an interior design studio based in Virginia. The logo and floral was created by Jess at Front Porch Studio. The final design turned out great! Both sides were letterpress printed, the fronts on white stock and the back on chartreuse paper to add some color. We’ve also posted a photo of the original design and the redesigned ones after the break.

This was the design for the front and back. Full floods of chartreuse like this don’t always produce the best results with letterpress printing. Printing white ink on chartreuse paper also wouldn’t work well since letterpress inks are semi-transparent.

So to take advantage of the benefits of letterpress we reworked the layout and colors to print the text on white paper and the flower on a green stock like this:

We really love the font used for the logo (Academy Engraved). The white space in the letters create a unique effect when letterpress printed. Here are some photos of the finished cards.

We used an 80# chartreuse cover stock for the back and 110# Crane’s Lettra for the fronts. The front was letterpress printed in two colors, charcoal gray for the text, and chartreuse (to match the backing paper) for the colons at the bottom.

The backs were also letterpress printed in the same charcoal gray ink as the fronts. Once both sides were done, the sheets were duplexed (glued) together and cut down to 3.5″ x 2″.

Because of the colored paper used for the backs, a stack of the cards (below) look really neat with stripes of white and green.
