Harry’s First Birthday Invitations

BABY

Its 1st Birthday time! We were so excited to get to work on these invitations for Harrison's first birthday.

The design started with the font - Core Circus - a layered type family that's one of our favorites. See the full post for more information about the different styles and effects you can achieve with it.

Our color palette was Navy + Gold and we wanted to mix matte and shine finishes with letterpress and foil.

The suite included an oversized invite, reply card, and custom envelopes.

The Inspiration:

Core Circus, a layered type family, was designed by S-Core. Here’s a link to the MyFonts page (Core Circus) with more details on the typeface. The options and combinations are nearly limitless.

Navy and gold were the perfect palette of colors for a first birthday invitation, playful but still classic.

Turning ‘one’ is a big deal!

We wanted to focus on the word ONE and so it became the center of the invitation. Rendered in the Core Circus font, we split the layers into Navy Blue ink and Gold foil to highlight the layered look.

The Reply Card

Size – 3.5″ x 5″ (4Bar)
StockColorplan Ice White (1ply – 270gsm)
Letterpress – Navy Blue – Heidelberg Windmill (10 x 15)
Foil Stamping – Metallic Gold – Kluge (10×15)
DesignDolce Press

We wanted to keep the foil to a minimum especially since the word ‘REPLY’ was such a prominent part of the card. We also opted to reply by phone or email which eliminated the need for a RSVP envelope.

The Mailing Envelope

Size – 8.75″ x 6.5″ (Dolce Oversize – custom)
Stock – Colorplan Ice White (text weight – 91lb)
Foil Stamping – Metallic Gold – Kluge (10×15)
Flat Printing – Black (Guest Addressing)
Design – Dolce Press

Standard sized invitations are great but when you get into the A8 / A9 size, the proportions are too narrow so we made a custom envelope. This new size – which we call ‘Dolce Oversize’ – is perfect for a larger format invitation without being too big.

The Return Address

The envelope is the first thing that you see so we wanted to add a little flair to the design. We foil stamped the entire flap with a stripped gold pattern. The front of the envelope (“Please deliver to:”) was also printed in gold foil and each address was imprinted in black.
