We wanted to kick off this week by sharing some business cards our designer Andrew Lee put together for Artist Nara Lee (naralee.net). What makes these cards different than most is the full solid leaf pattern we printed on the front of them.

To see some of the other custom designs we’ve put together take a look at these posts: Michael Blewitt Business Cards, 259 Strategies Stationery Suite, A Knockout Business Card, Totally Rocks Jewelry Cards.

We had some fun we these “leaves” and tried to make our own abstract paper tree. The kraft stock we used for these cards is equivalent to the thickness of 110# lettra. The leaf side was printed using transparent white ink and the backs were printed with black ink.

The back of the business cards were kept simple, the only way to balance all of the craziness going on with the front of the cards.

In this photo it almost seems like the stock is two-colors on either side but its actually the almost full solid of transparent white ink that acts to darker the color of the paper. The thin lines of the leafs are actually the negative space in the plate and remain raised.

For a 3D perspective of the cards look at this stereoscopic image we rendered below:

In order to get a great ink coverage we double hit the leaf pattern which means we ran them through the press twice. Printing like this takes more time but the finished piece is definitely worth it!

We think this print experiment turned out pretty cool. The front leaf letterpress print is definitely different and looks great.
