As printers we’re supposed to keep ink splatters off the prints, but Mya insisted so things got a little messy.
Mya organizes stuff for a living, how neat is that? Ok that was a bit lame, but these business cards aren’t. Mya came to us to get custom business cards designed/printed to get her business started (Show Me Your Mess). We worked with her to incorporate specific elements like the ink splatter into the cards.
With doubled sided letterpress business cards, we recommend using a 220lb stock instead of our 110lb cotton paper. For these cards we used a fluorescent white 220lb cotton stock. A thinner stock like 110lb Lettra will give less impression especially since you don’t want to get bruising or push-through on either side.
We letterpress printed the cards on the front using silver metallic (PMS 877) and pink (custom mix) ink, and the back in the same pink color. The cards were cut down to a final size of 2.5″ square. While the silver metallic ink isn’t reflective like metallic foil (Tuscan Wedding Invites or Vogue-inspired Business Cards), the finished result is a nice shimmer. Depending on the coverage of silver ink, the design can require a double hit to get a nice silver finish.
