It's no secret, we loooove paper. For us, printing is as much about the paper as it is the design.
White paper is cool, but who can resist a collection of nearly 50 colors - its the paper equivalent of a double rainbow. This is the first post in a new series we've dubbed #PaperNerd.
We've been big fans of Colorplan paper for over 10 years and its why we stock all of the colors.
The paper has a great texture which is something that compliments letterpress and foil stamping perfectly.
Read more about the stock options, envelopes, printing options, and some recent projects we've done with the paper in the full post.
Last week a friend tipped us off to a print shop that was closing around the corner so we dropped by to take a look.
No matter how many of these 'picks' we go on, it always surprises me to find them in our backyard.
The equipment was last used 5 years ago but everything was in pristine condition.
Among the presses available - a Kelly B, an ATF Little Giant, vintage Baumfolder, Galley Proof Press, and a Linotype.
The full post has more details about the shop and equipment for sale.

What are we doing? We're mixing our obsession with ink with memorable / inspirational quotes because they're two things we love.
We talk a lot about mixing ink. From our favorite colors, to tips and tricks of the trade.
If you didn't know by now, all of our ink is mixed by hand. It gives us the flexibility to adjust colors to get a perfect match.
Check out our Instagram feed (@dolcepress) for more of these pictures and to catch up on our latest work.

We're asked about the difference between letterpress and foil stamping all the time. After we printed these cards for Wes Schulz of Dreams Collide we knew they were perfect to illustrate the difference.
Foil Stamping (on the right) uses a metal plate with heat to imprint foil onto paper. Foil comes in a variety of shades including golds and silvers as well as a blues, greens, reds and lots of colors in between. We also have pigment (without the shine) and specialty foils like holographic and scratch off.
Letterpress (on the left) uses a plastic plate along with ink to create a debossed effect. There are more choices when it comes to ink color and if a pantone color doesn't exist, we mix it from scratch. Ink colors also include metallics (e.g. gold, bronze, copper, silver, etc.) and fluorescents.

The press came out of a small shop and was still being used by the original owner for printing.
So why a cylinder press? We're no strangers to cylinder presses, we love our Vandercook Universal III's! While the Heidelberg Windmill is the workhorse of the letterpress world, the KS (and the entire line of Heidelberg Cylinders) packs a big punch - literally.
A cylinder press prints one line of the form at a time while a platen press prints the entire form with a single impression. Top that off with 4 form rollers and you've got a the equivalent of a letterpress genie!
To keep busy while we're prepping for the inaugural print run, check out these Heidelberg manuals:
- Heidelberg Cylinder Operation Manual
- Heidelberg Cylinder Supplemental Manual

This week came and went fast, everyone in the studio was busy working on new projects including new designs for 2014!
If you didn't know by now, we love teal so when a customer asks us to edge invites in a spot PMS teal we get all giddy inside.
We've got an exciting announcement about some new equipment coming our way. We posted the news to instagram and asked people to guess, were they right?
Let's end with this quote from Maya Angelou and get creative. "The important thing is to use it. You can’t use up creativity. The more you use it, the more you have."
We love everything sweet and these custom notebooks we recently produced will definitely give you a cavity. Letterpress printed on GF Smith Colorplan in a brand new color, Pistachio.
The covers were letterpress printed with our icon pattern as a blind press and then foil stamped in metallic silver. Each of the inside pages is foil stamped in a different metallic colors for each of our sweet icons (think sundaes, cannoli, cakes, cupcakes).
Each book was saddle stitched (a fancy term for stapled) with 20 sheets of paper and trimmed to 5.5" x 3.75".
We're happy to announce the re-launch of our online shop with a brand new look. Not only did we focus on the look and navigation of the new shop, we also added new products from gift tags to baby posters and thank you cards.
There's even more coming to the shop, including some fun and new products we debuted at the national stationery show. We decided to kickoff the new store with a special coupon code, use LAUNCH during checkout to get 35% off your entire order.
Enjoy the new store and let us know what you think!
What's up! We've been so swamped since the wrap up of the National Stationery Show (booth #2142) that this is the first time anyone has had time to post about it.
The show was amazing! We met so many people new and old, it was really nice to put faces to all of the people we've been dealing with for so many years. Thank you for your continued support, we can't wait to share all of the new things with you.
But we weren't at the show just to mingle, we launched our new greeting card line, our first wedding album, tons of new thank you cards, hang tags, wine tags, and posters. All of this will be coming to our shop in the next few weeks, some of it has already popped up there (dolcepress.com/shop) so check it out.
Stay tuned for special posts on our swag from the show, booth setup, and more details on all of the new paper goods!
We decided to change things up this week and share some of the invitations we're working on.
The week started with an invitation suite that came with its own hastag (#atwed). These pieces were printed on Arturo stationery in soft white, pale pink, celadon, and pale blue and finished off with edge coloring.
We also printed invites designed by @deannebedier and a letterpress seashell invitation (Jina Paik) in purple ink. We also designed and printed sweet 16 invitations featuring a classic purple bow.
It was chilly this week - a huge blizzard is coming this weekend. I guess winter has finally arrived. To keep warm we've been busy in the studio mixing lots of ink. Our instagram feed this week was filled with different colors like sage green, cotton candy, silver, and more!
But just in case you're sick of color, we printed a beautiful set of notecards with no ink - they were blind embossed on Crane's Lettra. Just wait until you see them finished with edge coloring!
For more information on embossing - see our post on the difference between letterpress and embossing.
Now you can find us on Vine.co! We're proud to announce that our prints will be hitting the Vine.co servers on a regular basis and the best way to catch them if you don't use Vine is on our twitter account (details below).
What will you see on Vine? We'll be featuring ink mixing, new prints and invitations, and finishing. Maybe some surprises too!
Check out some videos after the break.
We were on both coasts this week, started out in Vegas and got to enjoy all of the beautiful neon signs (a really amazing study in typography and design). By Tuesday we were back in the studio rolling out prints for Valentine's Day (shop) and custom invitations and business cards.
Check out some of the new business cards we designed for Whisper Chef (a blind shell pattern) and Dark Propaganda (a set of black and red duplexed cards).
