Black letterpress on white stock with black edges.
Mikkat Market is an online boutique focused around the style of its founder, Katherine. We love Katherine’s style which is mirrored in the styling of her business cards. The MIKKAT logo was prominently displayed on the front of the cards and really brings to light to beauty and simplicity of letterpress. Take a peek at some of the production photos below.
The business cards were letterpress printed 1/1 in black. What does 1/1 mean? It refers to the number of colors on the front and back, in this case black on the front and black on the back. (#/# is printer’s shorthand used in quoting as a quick way to communicate the number of colors)
Because of the simplicity of the cards, we didn’t want the impression on either side to detract from the other. The simple solution was to print them separately on 110lb stock and duplex them after printing. The photo above right shows the bruising that can occur on the back of the sheet.
Duplexing also allows us to get the heaviest impression possible. Impression would need to be minimized on a pre-duplexed sheet to avoid bruising.
The printed sheets were glued, cut, and edge colored in black
People often ask if duplexed cards can be pulled apart or if they degrade over time. Over the past five years we’ve been duplexing cards we’ve never had cards fall apart and if you try to pull them apart, they just shred.
The back of the cards have their contact information. The layout matches the styling of their website.
Black edge coloring was the perfect match for these business cards.
If you weren’t a fan of Mikkat Market before, getting one of these cards from Katherine or Sean should be reason enough to visit their shop!
