Metallic Letterpress Business Cards
Letterpress printing on 2-ply black cotton stock.

We get a lot of requests for different paper stocks besides the common 110lb/220lb Crane’s Lettra that everyone uses. Besides kraft stock, black is the most common choice. We have several different black stocks, ranging from text weight (32lb) to 8-ply board. The black stock isn’t as soft as a white cotton rag paper but it still takes a nice impression.

I hope no one thought we would let today go by without posting some photos of a recent project. We printed these business cards for Machine Box Recording. We used a black 2-ply cotton board (equivalent in thickness to 220lb Lettra) and letterpress printed both sides with a metallic silver ink. The hardness of the black stock helps to reduce any potential push-through or bruising. Even though, we printed the back and then the front to ensure a uniform impression for their logo.

In addition to a variety of metallic silver/gold inks, we stock the whole set of Pantone mixing inks, as well as fluorescent colored inks for specialty projects. We want to know what types of projects you’d like to hear about, especially if you have any printing-related questions that you’d like to know more about. Please let us know below by leaving a comment!

On a completely entire note, you should check out some of Machine Box’s sick recordings on SoundCloud. With beats as good as this one (Machines Speak Techo, Vol. 1), it might finally be time to film our machines to accompany the track!
